So I had a thought last week about putting together some sort of portfolio in book form... well not really a portfolio, but I guess something I can look at and keep to have a solid in your hands copy of my vector/vexel art... and if I do manage to work my way into some sort of career in design, a book displaying what I can do.
That being said, this is a tad different to what I usually do thats for sure. However there is some hints of past work from Avenging Angel and No School Tomorrow - I love my alternative angels... very cliche, but very cool.
After some noting sessions with a new deviant ~CQcat - whos work is absolutely fantastic by the way - I asked if she wouldn't mind me just having a close look and trying to work out how to do a reference free cartoon type thing... cos lets face it, my previous attempts have been absolute fail.
So inspired by ~CQcat and her fantastic illustrations - here is a potential cover to my vector/vexel book
I dont want to be a bad guy here! Ugh! I like the angel. Really I do. I'm just not seeing any connection between the wood and the angel. I'm sure its just me. Like I love the texture of the wood, but its just...so much. And the angel is so little. *is the bad guy* I mean I'm proud of you for doing something new and whatnot, but I don't think the two things go? I dont know. Its just me I bet. I think also that you should see how the angel looks w/o the lineart? Again I like that too, but I think it might look even cooler without it.
No no no - don't feel like a bad guy at all, critism is always encouraged
I see where you're coming from... I tried to add a drop shadow to it, so there is some vague connection... I mainly just liked the colours and texture of the wood against the vector.
I tried doing it without line art and it didn't look as good... but I'm playing with line art a lot at the moment
Thank you for the comments, I really do appreciate it - do not feel bad for being such an observant person I'm only just learning here, so it's all good
Right. One other thing. One way you could make the wood work is if you acted like the angel thing was a sticker, and made more maybe? Or make it asymmetrical, which is always something that intrigues people in graphic design. You'll get more attention that way. Right I've said my piece now.
I dunno... I was thinking something to do with having a broken heart... but then after making it I thought gosh thats even more cliche than the whole alternative angel girl hehe
YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, I WILL NOT CRITIQUE, I WILL NOT SAY ANYTHING BAD FOR THIS CUTE ARTWORK, I JUST WANT TO SAY IM THE FIRST MAN TO COMMENT IN THIS ANGEL.....BRAVOOOOOOO
