I wanted to do another conceptual one as I feel a bit guilty uploading so many not as creative vectors and need to push my mind a bit.

So I decided to just get one stock image and work from it... ended up using 3 stock images!

I went for a follow on from my favourite piece I've done which is called No School Tomorrow. This is what happened maybe 200 years after that event/concept.

I was gonna put what this is about, but I'll see if anyone gets anything from it to see how well I put across the concept in this one.

I'm very proud of this one :D

As per, proud to say 100% vector :)

Tutorial to follow this week on how to do clouds/smog like this :)

Edit: Made the lines on the man and wings stand out more than before :)

I love when people combine several pieces of stock to combine a whole new picture, and I love even more when there's an actual idea or concept behind it. And lastly, I love that this is a follow-up to one of your previous vectors, and how the two combined tell a story.
I keep staring at the background and wonder how it can be vector. :giggle: To me, the way it creates a gradient going from grey to light blue emphasizes your whole "200 years later" idea. Like there's hope. Of course the one loose butterfly adds to it and makes me wonder if the person behind the gas mask would be able to survive if he/she took it off. Then again, he/she has wings. Could he be an angel? Is it possible the event you refer to has occurred in heaven?
Now I could drift off and talk about religion, but that would be taking it a little too far I believe. I also don't think I need to discuss your vector abilities, you're great at it!
This is a great piece that I very much enjoy, great job!

I saw this a while back and loved it, and now I was wondering if I could use it as my Avatar on Tumblr? Since my blog is sort of Chernobyl, gas mask themed, and I thought this picture was absolutely beautiful in it's own sort of way~

Very intriguing concept; brings about a new twist to what is so commonly conveyed with the lovely Monarch. I see a heavy significance to the strings, which somewhat add a note of quiet sarcasm, offering defiance to the title... mockery at its highest calibre. The solitary, swaying strip at the top allows the eye to travel, aided by the vertical arrangement... and make that one, most noteworthy connection of all, that amidst a world of dull, harrowing derision there can be genuine authenticity

Thank you for the comment and your insight into the concept and is pretty damn close to what I had in mind.

The wings of the gasmask guy are purely there for decoration... who doesn't love cliche wings? :giggle:

Basically the first piece, No School Tomorrow, is to do with the end of the world and how man has been treating the planet... and how if we continued how we are, there would be no future for younger generations.

Where as this piece is in the future after the events of No School Tomorrow. The story behind it was that the world was filled with polution and the after math of the events and there was no turning back. People would have to walk around in gasmasks in order to go outside their oxygen filled containers and as animals etc... couldn't use gasmasks, they all died. So to help bring some sort of comfort to people, it was decided to hang butterflies and birds from a high.

And in this you see someone discovering a butterfly which was thought to be dead, alive, the smog is disappearing showing a blue sky, that possibly there is hope that things are looking up.

I'm glad you liked it - I'm wanting to do more stuff like this, but I rarely get motivated to push myself so much.

We should revel in these rare occasions of yours then ;)

This reminds me somewhat of the same... line of thought as portrayed in the overall Animatrix series... deep visual poetry that isn't full of itself, to put it simply

Yanno what, I have that on _video_ and I still haven't seen it yet >_< - I heard the person who did the video of Breaking the Habit by Linkin Park had contributed to it so I bought the video. I must sit down and watch it sometime soon :eager:
