This is a bit of a bitter sweet submission.

Over 2 weeks ago now, I was asked by ^Katerina423 as well as another great selection of deviants to contribute to a book she was going to make for `arachnid15's birthday - which was 2 days ago now.

I felt absolutely honored to be asked and started straight away on completely a piece especially for this book.

It is based on a reference image by ^Katerina423 - one of few images of Steven which show his non-dramatical side... not the model... not the drama queen... not the evil penis... but Steven Perry.

The Steven Perry who isn't afraid of voicing his opinion on things he feels so damn passionate about.

He is also a person who has an on going battle with depression.

As a person who has battled with depression and anxiety (to the point where I thought there was only one end), I found it so honest that he picked his emotional scabs and shared with people what he was going through... and not in the teen angst "OMG my mother will never understand me" type angst.

This is a grown man in reality, fighting with his own shit.

Now several years ago, I came across the phrase "to dream of the person you wish to be, is to waste the person you are" and even when you are looking down the barrel of a gun and feel there is no way out... I do firmly believe, you can be no better person than yourself.

There is only one of you, why wish to be another? You're so unique. No matter how normal you may perceive yourself as being... there. is. only. one. of. you.

I felt completely honored and touched that Katie told me after receiving the image, she had found the cover to the book.

Sadly `arachnid15 aka Steven Perry aka the Evil Penis has now left deviantArt and I'm not ashamed to say, I honestly feel a loss... it brought a tear to my eye and hell, it's bringing me to tears now. He has inspired me to be a better artist and a better person.

I'll be stalking his site and hopefully our artistic paths will cross again.

Note: I tried to be kinda creative with the colours... that a person is precious (golden colours) even in a time of darkness (blue/midnight colours).

I LOVE this piece... great piece of art babe, very true to the original photo. I too, have been extremely inspired by Steven and Katie, they're amazingly talented artists and I think i'd make a killer book cover, I hope he liked it. I'm sorry to see he's not posting on DA anymore, it makes me wanna punch the naysayers and people who are afraid of the male nude. I totally understand his frustration with these people, I get it a lot myself.

Yeah I tried following the link cause I really wanted to see it, but I don't think Kat's site is working anymore. :( ... I like the way you do eyes, very stylized, yet realistic, with lots of life and expression. Tight work!

this piece is just stunning and I love the things you wrote, I never had the chance to know this person but what u wrote about him did touch my heart. :) and it made a lot of difference seeing this vector. great work.
