When you use the drop shadow filter in AI, it adds a raster layer therefore rendering it an invalid submission for the vector catagory on dA. This tutorial shows you how to do a drop shadow which is 100% vector!

In order to get to the starting point of this stage, you will need to know how to make several paths into one shape. The first part of this tutorial can be found here

@04:54just a question, but is there a specific reason why the category submission is so anal about stuff? i mean, because a blur filter isnt exactly vector??? who gives a shit anyway? (forgive my choice of words, its just how i express myself when im too lazy to sugar coat)

@04:54It is hardest way i ever seen. it's much easier in fact. just merge layers and then make copy of merged layer. make one layer black and thats it.
