The theme was to reinterpret one of 6 famous traditional paintings.
I've choosen DaVinci's Mona Lisa... the model *Outovsyt
I've used the colour palette directly from the Mona Lisa on this vector and used a variety of techniques to produce this ranging from solid shapes, gradients, blends, single strokes with a vector brush, vector textures... god, there is a lot haha
I wanted to have a sort of abused looking watercolour background feel with a cartoon/line art version of Paul in a suit on top.
I'm loving this technique at the moment and I loved how I received a note questioning whether it was vector or not. For those who doubt, I have sent my Hope Tomorrow AI file to ^Ikue to show him it is 100% vector this style and he can confirm
He always has this sarcastic, non-smile look on his face and I kind of thought... apart from any excuse to wear a suit... that maybe it could represent the work place, business and economy... about the current economic climate/credit crunch and it really doesn't give you anything to smile about.
Congrats on the #2 win! I like this--it's wonderfully imaginative and very apropos to modern life; your background texture is simply amazing. It's not vectorish looking at all, and how you did it is pure genius. I definitely learned something from your techniques, and hope I'll get a chance to use them in the future.
Congrats on 3rd place
