Well, looks like some things change and it's time to embrace it.
Thank you to everyone who responded to my previous
blog and who talked to me on MSN about things.
Out of curiousity, I checked out the gallery info page and it states the following for vexel:
Gallery Info: Vexel
Raster art that takes after the style of vector.
Fantastic! And checking back through e-mails, it stated that ^
Jules1983 and ^
shebid did want to change this description to this. Fair play and that's great.
However...
--- People don't seem to know this. People are still submitting vectors as vexel art in the gallery.
--- People are accepting vector art into _vexel_ contests.
--- People are still confused.
And since *
Sewwy and I are active deviantArt members and wanted this change, we would like to try and get the community to help themselves. To spread the word. To help educate each other. To help clear the vexel gallery of miscats.
Do you want to help?
You can do this in one or more of the following ways:
1)
Something simple is to display a stamp on your blog created by *Sewwy

This is stating in simple words... Vexel art is raster art that takes after the style of vector. It's short. It's sweet. It's not hard to get confused with.
2)
Make a blog, tell people that you want to teach them, whether they are a vector artist, a vexel artist, a photographer, a digital painters, a watercolour artist, a writer... tell them that vexel art is raster art that takes after the style of vector.Even if you're just stating that line... you are putting out that message, you are educating people around you. Even if you don't favourite work or appreciate vexel art... knowledge is power and we all appreciate art. The more you know and all that jazz... maybe one day it will be in a pub quiz. Get people knowing.
3)
Report miscats in the VEXEL gallery... if you see an image in the VEXEL gallery stating it is vector, stating that it is made in Illustator... stating it is made with gradient meshes... stating it uses vector blends... stating they have used live trace or live paint... IT IS VECTOR. Report it and suggest it is placed in the vector category for one or more of those reasons.
Don't leave a comment telling the artist otherwise. This isn't the way deviantArt works. It might be taken as an insult by the artist. Just report it as a miscat.
4)
Drop by ANYONES'S userpage, even ^Jules1983 or ^shebid, even MY page, just telling them... VEXEL art is RASTER art that takes after the style of vector. And be nice... wish them a wonderful day... check out their gallery and maybe leave a positive comment on a deviation. They will remember what you said and associate what you have said with a positive notion.
5)
Why not create your own stamp? Tell me you have so I can display it loud and proud on my blogs... so others can share it... so others can fav it and if someone just favourite surfs into their fav gallery and see's it - it gets the message out further!
Spread the word! Say it through art! Say it through a dA trend!
6)
Learn how to create vexel art...Well you see, if there is something I do well, in my opinion, it is to do tutorials. So that my friends is what I'm planning to do. I'll put my money where my mouth is and I'll put together something special

Tell me if you've done ANY of these things... so I can make a big old feature/shout out... just something for people who have been so kind to take just a minute out of their time to help get this out there!

It's only a small step forward, but it's forwards, and not backwards.

another question though. you don't need to answer, but I would be glad if you would. What are stamps for? I have seen several, but I don't know what they are for?
have a nice day,

By your argument, artwork created this way would not be allowed in the vector gallery either.
I agree with gradient mesh, this was decided to be vector, but I disagree about vector blends. This would I assume include both the radial and linear gradient fills? Since when are gradient fills not acceptable as vexel?
I'm sorry Illustrator files don't create the type of vexels your used to, but if you limit vexel submissions just by what program was used to create it, a LOT of deviations will have to be moved or removed from this site......including roughly 2/3 of my entire gallery. That is roughly 175 pieces of artwork that will no longer be welcome in vector (because of the raster filters), OR vexel (because you don't feel my work belongs there either). These arguments continually have to be made, the GM's have decided what works well for everyone.
I am a member of dA too, don't I have the right to post my work here just like you do? Where else am I supposed to post?
